It’s Never Too Late for a Perfectly Aligned Smile!

Braces for Adults: Embrace Your Smile!

Living with a smile you’re not confident with can be challenging. For many adults, crooked teeth or bite concerns can influence self-esteem and contribute to issues such as difficulty chewing, mouth breathing, jaw tension, or speech challenges. Orthodontic care, such as braces, is thought to support long-term oral health and overall well-being for adults of all ages.

When orthodontic treatment is undertaken later in life, comfort, transparency, and efficiency are essential. Thanks to advances in modern orthodontics, today’s adult braces are more comfortable, discreet, and effective than ever before. Innovative systems like LightForce™ 3D Braces and Damon Clear Braces allow for gentler tooth movement, enhanced precision, and often shorter treatment times. Every braces plan is individually tailored to suit your smile, lifestyle, and goals,  helping you feel confident at every stage of your journey.

The process for Adult Braces

1 Your Initial Consultation

Solas Orthodontics Clinic

Your experience begins with a comprehensive consultation with Dr O’Connor, our specialist orthodontist. He’ll carefully assess your teeth and jaw alignment, discuss your concerns, and clearly outline your treatment options. During that time, you’ll be able to ask questions and clarify anything to ensure you feel confident about the next steps.

2 Advanced 3D Smile Scan

When you’re ready to proceed, we’ll take a detailed 3D scan of your smile. This technology allows us to see the full picture and design your personalised treatment plan with precision.

As an adult patient who needed braces at the age of 27, I found Dr.Daniel and his staff to be friendly, professional and efficient. I am extremely pleased with the results of my treatment. If you are looking for an orthodontist who knows what he is doing, this is the place to go.

I could not thank Dan and his team enough! All the staff there are helpful, organise and very friendly. I was always made to feel very comfortable and was made very aware of what was happening along the away with my treatment. Dr Dan did some very amazing work on my teeth. Not only do they look better than I ever that they could, he saved me a lot of money by dealing with the issues I had as a priority. I would highly recommend Dan and his lovely team.

FAQs

How do I know if I need braces?

If you’ve noticed crowded or spaced teeth, discomfort when biting, or changes in your smile that concern you, an orthodontic assessment is the best first step. Dr O’Connor will explain what’s happening and recommend the most suitable treatment.

Is there an age limit for orthodontic treatment?

There’s no age limit for orthodontics. Adult braces can be highly effective at any stage of life. Whilst early assessments are recommended for children, adults of all ages can benefit from treatment.

Are braces uncomfortable?

Modern braces for adults are designed with comfort in mind. With advanced systems and gentle adjustment techniques, most patients experience only mild tenderness initially, which settles quickly.

How long does adult braces treatment take?

Treatment time varies, but most adult braces treatments last between 6 and 18 months, depending on individual needs. Regular appointments help ensure your treatment stays on track.

Will braces interfere with my everyday activities?

Adult braces are designed to fit seamlessly into daily life. Minor adjustments, such as wearing a mouthguard for contact sports, may be needed, but our team will guide you every step of the way and make the appropriate recommendations based on your specific situation.

Do clear braces stain?

Clear braces can be more prone to staining than metal braces if not cared for properly, especially the elastic ties or removable aligners. For example, clear aligners like Spark are designed to resist staining and stay clearer than standard aligner brands, but removing them before eating or drinking anything other than water is important to prevent discolouration.

Braces vs Aligners - which is best for adults?

Both traditional braces and clear aligners are effective for adults. The right choice depends on your needs and preferences:

  • Clear aligners are nearly invisible, removable for eating and brushing, and often fit adult lifestyles well.
  • Braces (including clear or ceramic braces) are fixed and can be more suitable for complex tooth movements or bite issues.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Your orthodontist will recommend what’s best based on your goals, bite complexity, and daily routine.

Adult braces - how much do they cost?

The cost of braces varies depending on the type of treatment and the complexity of your case. Following your consultation with your orthodontist and on the treatment options you will opt for, our team will provide you with a personalised cost estimate.

Will I need to wear a retainer after my adult braces?

Yes, retainers are often required and recommended after orthodontic treatment to keep your teeth in their new positions and prevent them from shifting back over time. They’re a great way to help maintain results after treatment. Dr O’Connor and our team will provide you with all the necessary information and guidance on how to use and care for your retainers and your brand new smile post-treatment.
