Timing is key for teen orthodontic treatment. Because teens’ jaws and teeth are still growing, starting braces at the right age allows us to guide jaw development, correct bite issues early, and create straight, healthy teeth more efficiently. The process for Teen Braces
1 Your Initial Consultation
Your teen’s journey begins with a personalised consultation with Dr Daniel O’Connor, our Specialist Orthodontist. During this visit, Dr. O’Connor will carefully assess their teeth and jaw, and guide you both through the most appropriate treatment options with clarity and care. He takes the time to answer every question, ensuring you and your teen feel confident, informed, and supported from the very beginning.
2 3D Scan Of Your Smile
Once you’re ready to begin, we’ll take a precise 3D scan of your teen’s smile. This scan will allow us to generate a virtual simulation of their results and help us map out their personalised treatment plan.
3 Start of treatment
When it’s time to begin, we’ll carefully fit your braces and make gentle adjustments to ensure everything feels as comfortable as possible.

4 Regular Check-Ups
Every 4 to 8 weeks, we’ll book you in for a visit so we can review your progress and fine-tune your braces as needed. If something doesn’t feel quite right between appointments, our friendly team is always here to help.
5 Follow-Ups and After-Care
When your braces come off, we’ll continue to guide you with after-care and monitor your smile for up to 12 months—helping you maintain your beautiful results!

How do I know if I need braces?

Is there an age limit for orthodontic treatment?
There’s no age limit for orthodontics. Braces can be highly effective at any stage of life. Whilst early assessments are recommended for children, teens and adults of all ages can benefit from treatment.
Are braces uncomfortable?
Braces for kids, teens and adults have been made more comfortable thanks to technological advancements. Combining the use of these new technologies with gentle adjustment techniques, we help keep your experience as smooth and as pain-free as possible. Mild tenderness is normal at first, but it eases quickly.
How long does braces treatment take?
Braces for teens typically last between 6 and 18 months, depending on your needs. Regular check-ups help keep your progress on track and ensure the best possible results.
Will braces interfere with my everyday activities?
Braces are designed to fit seamlessly into everyday life. A few simple adjustments might be required, such as wearing a mouthguard for extra protection when playing contact sports. Our team will guide you through everything you need to know so your treatment fits smoothly into your routine.
Do clear braces stain?
The good news is that ceramic (clear) brackets do not stain easily. However, if the type of braces you choose have elastics to hold the brackets to the wire, they can become stained if they are not looked after. At Solas Orthodontics, we do offer Damon self-ligating Clear Braces with no elastics needed.
Teen braces - how much do they cost?
The cost of braces varies depending on the type of treatment and the complexity of your case. Following your consultation with your orthodontist our team will provide you with a personalised cost estimate.
Will I need to wear a retainer after my braces?
Yes, retainers are required and recommended after orthodontic treatment to keep your teeth in their new positions and prevent them from shifting back over time. They’re a great way to help maintain results after treatment. Dr. O’Connor and our team will provide you with all the necessary information and guidance on how to use and care for your retainers and your brand new smile post-treatment.
